Full Weekend

Friday kicked it off with a visit from [info]yolenand [info]fingsThey brought a friend with them, a fellow mommy of two and so we had ourselves quite a play date. It amazes me to watch kids play together. These children have never laid eyes on each other before, yet they played like they've been the best of friends all their little lives. I was also pleased to notice that I had a similar reaction hanging out with a new friend. Meeting new people is often stressful for me. I'm usually nervous which means I either ramble on way too much, interrupt conversations instead of waiting my turn and ususally don't fully finish my thoughts before I start verbalizing them so some of what I say ends up not sounding quite the way it should. Anyway I think I maintained myself pretty well. A huge lunch of pasta, salad, brownies and tiramisu was enough to calm the nerves!  That plus the fact that their friend was very easy to get along with!  Yay for meeting new people! [info]yolenand [info]fingshung out into the evening which was awesome since I don't get to see nearly enough of them.  We indulged in some pizza and I finally got to play Munchkin!  That was fun!!

After getting to bed entirely too late, we woke up late Saturday morning.  We cleaned the house and went shopping to prepare for a family get together we were hosting later that evening.  In between all that we took the girls to an Easter Egg hunt in the park.  The last time we went, we were waiting outside forever for the event to begin.  This time, we got there LITERALLY 2 minutes too late and they had already started so there were no eggs left for my kids!  They managed to pick up a few packages of treats and luckily Nanny and Grandpa had gotten there early enough to swipe them each a plastic egg when no one was looking!  We got to take a picture with the Easter bunny...my youngest one probably scarred for life from the experience...and then we went to play in the park for a bit.  I ran into two girls I went to HS with who were also there with their kids.  This is an item probably best saved for the soap box, so we'll leave it at some things just never change.  Whatever.  We got back to the house with just enough time to finish cleaning up before my family arrived.  We got to show off our new house to all my relatives.  Everyone stopped by...my parents, brother and SIL, my aunt and uncle and my 3 cousins.  Only my grandparents weren't up for the trip out.  Last time the whole family was together like that and my grandparents were not there, we all felt their absence.  It was different this time.  Maybe because we were gathering for a happy occasion.  My house was well warmed this weekend by family and friends and everyone seemed to be happy. I was pleased.  We even got some gifts! woohoo!

Sunday we traveled up to northwestern NJ for a birthday party.  It seems that the main source of getting together with our other parent friends is when someone is having an event for their kids.  It was a nice relaxed party.  The kids were on their best behavior, everyone sat around and chatted.  Everyone seems to be in good health and spirits and we got to eat more pizza!  After the party we drove over to my in-laws for dinner.  Visits with them are way less stressful now that we get to go home afterwards and don't have to see them every day.  We had beef stew and my FIL made brownies for dessert.  The amount of sugar my kids ingested this weekend was disgusting.  After 4 boring days home during the week we really overdid it on the weekend.  They were up WAAAAY late partying each night...ate way too much crap...and had so much stimulation the whole weekend.  Needless to say, they both kind of hit the wall when we tried putting them in bed tonight.

They did eventually go to sleep, but yet it's almost 2am and here I sit spilling my guts instead of getting some much needed sleep. I guess I was over stimulated this weekend too.  A crash is inevitable.  My husband and I agree that we need to start getting ourselves in order this week.  I do agree, but I know next weekend is going to be just as hard on us.  Friday though Sunday our days are packed again.  I can't wait until Easter is over.  I totally feel the need for a major detox very soon.
